5S - Workplace Organisation

Interest and Need

5SHaving an organised workplace that aids the process of work has a positive impact on quality, delivery, cost and health and safety.

5S is not about having something that looks nice but a workplace that is consciously organised and structured to ensure consistency of output and where abnormal conditions are easily identified.

 

Range and Objectives

This is ideally run on the employers’ premises and is an instructor led course that uses the actual workplace to carry out 5S audits facilitated by the instructor. The course discusses the processes and practices of a disciplined approach to organising the workplace and all the business processes that go to sustain any improvements made.

 

At the end of the course the candidates will be able to:

·        Advise on how to implement a 5S programme in any working environment

·        Describe the advantages of using a structured approach to workplace organisation

·        Carry out 5S audits and make the necessary improvements in workplace organisation

·        Use key metrics to analyse and report improvements made in any given area

·        Use existing business processes and good business practice to sustain and replicate improvements made

·        Use 5S as a tool to improve quality (right first time), delivery and reduce cost and improve activities like process set up (see also single minute exchange of dies)

·        Define the critical need for a team approach to 5S

·        Explain the need for full management support and clear communication of intent for a 5S programme

 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course, therefore people at all levels and from all areas will benefit from attending.
