Interest and Need

The supervision and management of other people requires a number of skills from communication to understanding behaviour. All too often managers and supervisors are promoted to the post without the support of training, and expected to perform miracles.

This course is designed for newly appointed managers and supervisors or managers and supervisors who have not received any formal training and establishes the roles of the supervisor/manager and the basic tools and skills required to manage and develop others.

 

Range and Objectives

This course is a mixture of instructor led discussions with practical exercises for the delegates to perform as a means of reinforcing the main learning points for the delegates. The delegates will be provided with a comprehensive course manual that will enable them to make their own notes if they wish.

 

Having completed this course the delegates will be able to:

·        Describe the role of the manager/supervisor and how this relates to company structures

·        Understand the role of the team and the human mechanisms that determine how we all behave

·        Manage change in a way that achieves positive outcomes for all concerned

·        Manage their own time more effectively and aid others in the management of their time

·        Delegate effectively without overloading subordinates and ensuring deadlines are met

·        Communicate more effectively at all levels of the business and with customers

·        Deal with difficult situations to achieve a win-win solution

·        Give feedback in a constructive and supportive manner

·        Develop subordinates to maximise their potential for the company and for themselves

·        Set meaningful and realistic goals and objectives with positive results

·        Motivate others even under difficult situations.

 

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course but is more suited to someone with some supervisory experience.
